Orland Park Fire Protection District - Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony June 8, 2010

The Dedication and Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the new Orland Park Fire Protection District Command Training Center took place on June 8, 2010 on the grounds located at 10728 163rd Place in Orland Park. Local officials were in attendance including the Fire Chief and Chief of Police as well as Senator Maggie Crotty  and State Representative Renee Kosel.  Several Orland Park Fire Protection District Board members and Battalion Chiefs were on hand to help introduce the new 12,000 square foot two-story training center.

In addition to interactive audio and video capabilities aiding in the teaching and reinforcement of command procedures and emergency responses, the facility also serves as a dispatch center and in the event of a disaster can become a fully functional fire station.  The facility contains two drive-thru engine bays, one ambulance bay, a class-room and ample storage space.  Though the project is not registered with USGBC and official LEED certification was not pursued, the building incorporates several sustainable design components.  A highly reflective roof reduces the heat island effect, low-flow water fixtures reduce water consumption, energy efficient lighting in conjunction with skylights and ample windows help in reducing electrical power consumption.  The material selection for the building envelope maximizes the use of locally available resources and strictly enforced construction waste management plan led to the recycling of over 75% of the construction waste.

The new facility is designed to be durable, adaptable to current and future anticipated uses, keep maintenance requirements to a minimum and serve the District for many years to come.
